Artist Statement
My embroideries are based in the intangible and ephemeral nature of memory. In these pieces I use an item of clothing or fabric scraps as a representation of a memory, and in embellishing it with thread and paint, I am making an effort to preserve it while also commenting on how memories change over time.
I use embroidery as a form of painting, creating abstract compositions on reclaimed fabric. I work intuitively and organically to create a balanced composition while exploring color, line, and texture.
All of my pieces originated as a favorite, but worn out item of clothing, or remnants from an old project. I am a keeper by nature, and so many of these items I just could not bear to throw away after their usefulness ended. I find deep satisfaction in using old, loved memories to make art.
